Toilets, basins and vanity units

Close-coupled toilets and vanity basin units fitted, plumbed in and sealed. A vanity unit gives you storage under the basin as well as somewhere to stand the everyday bits, instead of a pedestal basin on its own - we fit both. One bathroom has a white vanity unit and close-coupled toilet against dark grey tiles; another, a vanity basin unit and toilet under a window with grey wall tiles; a third, a pedestal basin and toilet with cream tiles and a mosaic border under the window.

Vanity unit or pedestal basin?

A vanity unit suits a bathroom short on storage, since everything under the basin stays out of sight; a pedestal basin suits a smaller room where every inch of floor space counts. Both are plumbed in, connected and sealed the same way. A close-coupled toilet has the cistern built onto the back of the pan, the tidiest option for a small room; a back-to-wall toilet hides the cistern completely, inside a unit or behind a panel.
